KUCHING, Nov 29: A total of 11,095 Sarawak graduates have benefited from Yayasan Sarawak’s Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) loan repayment incentive totaling RM36.1 million since 2019, according to Sarawak Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

Sagah stated this in his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

“Sarawak is the only state in Malaysia to offer such an incentive, and that an additional RM30 million has been approved for the incentive for the following year,” he disclosed.

He explained that under the Yayasan Sarawak 30:30 Loan Repayment Incentive, the Sarawak government will subsidise 30 per cent of the balance of Sarawak graduates’ PTPTN study loans.

“The Yayasan Sarawak 30:30 Loan Repayment Incentive, or ‘Insentif Bayaran Balik 30:30’, is part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing effort, through Yayasan Sarawak, to assist Sarawak graduates in repaying their PTPTN study loans,” he said.

Sagah went on to say that graduates must have already paid off or settled at least 30 per cent of their PTPTN loans to be eligible for the incentive, and that other terms and conditions must also be met.

“Let me illustrate. A graduate has been given a RM10,000 PTPTN loan. To be eligible for the incentive, the graduate must have paid at least 30 per cent or RM3,000 of the RM10,000 loan.

“With this, he is eligible for 30 per cent incentive on the balance at RM7,000, amounting to RM2,100.

“Therefore, the graduate’s remaining loan is RM4,900. With this, the graduate shall continue to repay his loan based on the new balance. Therefore, we urge our graduates to fulfil their obligation in repaying their loans,” he clarified. — DayakDaily
