SIBU, Jan 3: Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) Rajang Branch has come up with a special form to request that stateless children be able to attend school.
The form is obtainable at bit.ly/BillJugah.
Chairman Bill Jugah said the idea came following complaints from parents and guardians of children who are not eligible to attend school as they do not have the relevant personal documents.
“I have made the form easy for people to complete and submit. After filling in all the necessary details, they have to send a copy to the school, district education office and to me,” he said.
Bill said there are a total of 280 downloads since he uploaded the form on Jan 25.
“The response is quite good as I can see that there are already 280 downloads. One of them have already submitted it to me and I am expecting more to do so after the Chinese New Year celebration,” he said.
Asked if the authority concerned would accept the form, he said, “I will put pressure on them as no one should be denied the right to education. The government should change the education guidelines and requirements so that stateless children can attend school.”
He added that with such a form, the government will also have a rough idea of the number of stateless children who are unable to attend school. — DayakDaily
