KUCHING, April 22: Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd has secured a contract worth RM550 million from the Sarawak government for the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching II (BCCK II) project set to commence this month.
According to The Edge in a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Monday (April 21), it was revealed that CMS Land Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary 51 per cent owned by Cahya Mata, was awarded the contract.
The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) holds the remaining 49 per cent.
A formal agreement will be signed by the second quarter of the year for the project, which is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2028.
The project includes the design and construction of the convention centre, covering the foundation, structure, mechanical and electrical systems, interior fit-outs, and commissioning. It is expected to impact earnings and net assets from 2025 to 2028 positively.
Despite the possibility of supply chain challenges caused by global trade uncertainties, Cahya Mata expressed confidence in managing the risks through its subsidiaries, such as Cahya Mata Cement and its concrete and construction materials business.
On April 13, the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), through a press release, said that BCCK II will be able to accommodate up to 9,500 people.
The expansion of the convention centre is an initiative by the Sarawak government to strengthen Kuching’s role as the main hub for conventions and international events within the region. — DayakDaily
