Man jailed 3 years for stabbing another after drunken quarrel

SIBU, Feb 3: A 46-year-old man has been sentenced to three years jail and two strokes of the cane by the Magistrate’s Court on Monday for voluntarily causing hurt to another man.

The accused, Jamit Umpang pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

The offence provides for an imprisonment of up to three years as well as a fine and whipping.


Magistrate Syukri Mohkar in sentencing the accused, ordered that the sentence be served from the date of his arrest on Jan 25.

According to the brief facts of the case, a quarrel erupted between the accused and the 29-year-old victim at about 8.50pm on Jan 24 at a shophouse at Taman Indah.

The accused was enraged when the victim, who was then said to be drunk, pushed him.

In a fit of anger, the accused took out a custom-made knife and stabbed the victim in his chest.

The incident was captured by the closed circuit camera of the shop.

The police then arrested the accused the next day at his rented room on the second floor of the shophouse and also seized the knife used in the attack. — DayakDaily
