KUCHING, April 22: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is stepping up efforts to cultivate environmental awareness among students through practical, hands-on activities and educational sessions, in line with its commitment to sustainability under the Earth Day 2025 theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said early exposure to environmental education is vital to instilling a sense of responsibility among the younger generation to preserve and protect the ecosystem for future generations.

“This year’s global theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, calls on every individual, community, and government to recognise their collective ability to create real environmental change. For MBKS, this isn’t just a theme — it’s a commitment that runs through every initiative they champion,” he said.

Wee made these remarks during MBKS’s environmental awareness programme with students of Chung Hua Middle School No 3 at the MBKS grounds here today, held in conjunction with Earth Day 2025.

“We want to show people that change doesn’t only come from the top — it starts in every home, every shop, every choice. We all have power. And our planet is waiting,” he added.

A total of 135 students took part in various MBKS-organised activities including tree planting and environmental talks aimed at fostering a deep appreciation and care for the natural world.
