KUCHING, Dec 4: A total of RM883.7 million from the overall RM1 billion allocation has been approved for infrastructure development projects in the Sarawak border areas for 2023 and 2024.
In a news report by TVS, Deputy Minister of Economy Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib stated that this allocation is part of the initiative announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in January 2023 to enhance security and basic infrastructure, including the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security Complex (ICQS), cross-border roads, and border town development in Sabah and Sarawak.
“Seventeen projects in Sarawak have been approved, involving various ministries.
“These include the construction of the Nanga Mujong to Tunoh road in Kapit, costing RM162 million; the development of six new border posts, totaling RM12.6 million; and the upgrading of Sarawak Brigade posts and premises, valued at RM3.8 million,” she said.
She was answering a question from Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem regarding the usage of the RM1 billion allocation announced by the Prime Minister for upgrading the Malaysia-Indonesia border areas in Sarawak in Parliament today.
Hanifah also reported that three projects, worth RM7.6 million, have been completed, while four projects under the Ministry of Defence, valued at RM47.6 million, are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
“Ten more projects are currently underway.
“In 2025, a total of 37 new projects under Rolling Plan 5 of the 12th Malaysia Plan will be implemented, with a total cost of RM397 million,” he added.
Among the key projects are the procurement of border post equipment worth RM30 million, the construction of a landing pad and fuel dump for border control (RM13.6 million), and the installation of a solar power supply system at Pos Tapak Megah, costing RM20 million.
Overall, the total allocation for the development of the Sabah-Sarawak-Kalimantan border has now reached RM2.026 billion, with RM1.23 billion allocated to Sarawak.
“This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening border infrastructure for the well-being of the people and the security of the nation,” she concluded. — DayakDaily
