KUCHING, Feb 15: Construction on the 18.99km-long Ulu Suai Road costing RM68 million is now complete.

According to a statement, Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah today visited the former gravel-earth road, which is now a Public Works Department (JKR) R3 standard road, to inspect it.

Cold in-place recycling (CIPR) Technology with Chip Seal Surface Dressing was used for the upgrading work.

The technique is a road treatment process for roads with structural flaws.

Improvements to the drainage system consist of culvert replacements, construction of new culverts, installation of roadside drains, and constructing drainage on slopes.

It also included road signs, pavement markings, guardrails, ground treatment, and retaining structures as needed.

Meanwhile, according to Uggah, CIPR technology could be used to upgrade more former logging roads, plantation roads, and rural roads in the region.

He was accompanied on the visit by Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Port Development) Dato Majang Renggi and JKR Sarawak director Ir Richard Tajan. — DayakDaily
