KUCHING, March 6: Sarawak wants to build a new Immigration, Custom, and Quarantine (ICQ) centre in Pendam, Limbang.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg highlighted that Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan will represent the Sarawak government in negotiations with the Brunei government on the matter.

“We had a discussion with Brunei. In fact, we will establish an office in Bandar Seri Begawan similar to the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (Statos) in Singapore.

“And YB Datuk Amar Awang Tengah will represent the Sarawak government in negotiations with the Brunei government on the matter,” he said during a press conference today at Limbang Waterfront in Limbang.

The Premier also revealed a joint committee has been set up to connect with Limbang through the ICQ.

“We hope to establish an ICQ in Pendam, in the Limbang area because from the Limbang Bridge to Pendam is only 15km, and from Pendam directly to Brunei via the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge. So, from Brunei to Limbang, about 20 minutes,” he said

Abang Johari also pointed out that Sarawak shares a close relationship with Brunei, which will foster friendship between the two regions. — DayakDaily
