KUCHING, Oct 5: A police permit is no longer required for inter-district travel in Sarawak, effective tomorrow (Oct 6) onwards.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in announcing this today, however, said that police permits are still mandatory for inter-state travel.

With the relaxation of the standard operating procedures (SOP) for fully vaccinated people to cross districts, SDMC discouraged people from making trips to visit one another.

Members of the public are strongly advised to practice a high degree of self-discipline and self-control as efforts to defeat Covid-19 are still ongoing in Sarawak.

SDMC emphasised that people need to realise that the fight against Covid-19 is everyone’s responsibility and they should always keep safety and health as their top priority, especially those in rural areas.

Children below the age of 12 are discouraged from going out to public and crowded places for the time being.

If need be, they should be accompanied by parents or guardians who have been fully vaccinated and it is compulsory to follow all health protocols issued.

SDMC has again urged people to remain vigilant and continue to practice all Covid-19 health and safety precautions including keeping face masks on and keeping a distance from one another while in public places, ensuring good ventilation and avoiding gathering activities to curb the spread of infection in the community. — DayakDaily
