KUCHING, Dec 18: The Sarawak government has approved RM16 million to upgrade the Bau Water Treatment Plant (Bau WTP) under the Ministry of Utilities and Sarawak Rural Water Department (JBALB).

JBALB, in a media release today, emphasised that the project will benefit more than 50,000 residents in Bau town and its vicinity areas upon completion.

The construction of four-door barracks is still ongoing.

“It will also address the issue of water supply disruptions and improve the treated water delivery system for affected areas,” it said.

As an implementing agency, JBALB is at its last phase of preparation before the upgrading project commenced.

The project, which is fully funded by the Sarawak government, is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2021 with the scope of works involving upgrading, retrofit, testing and commissioning works.

The raw water intake facility has been upgraded.

Other upgrades include constructions of raw water intake facilities, flocculation and sedimentation systems, filtration and backwash systems, control and administration blocks as well as other buildings within the Bau WTP. — DayakDaily
