KUCHING, Nov 19: Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem assures his commitment to making Malaysia as one of the foreign investor’s preferred destinations in South East Asia.

Riot said, as the Prime Ministerā€™s Special Envoy to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan with the status of Minister, he wants to attract as many investors as possible, because the Japanese and South Korean are closing their factories in China, and trying to relocate it into South East Asia (SEA).

ā€œI want to make sure that Malaysia is one of the few countries in SEA, which they must look at for investment in the future,ā€ he said when met by reporters after visiting the SMK Serian new carpark project today.

Riot noted, as far as Sarawak is concerned, the latest (foreign) investment in the state is in Bintulu.

ā€œAs we all already know, there is one big company in Bintulu, involving South Korea, and they already started to operate, even under this Covid-19 situation,ā€ he added.

On another note, Riot said that a total of 340,000 Malaysian workers are employed by about 1,400 Japanese companies that have been established in the country.

According to Riot, from the recent engagement conducted with the Japanese companies, they have provided a very positive outcome.

ā€œThe good thing is, as far as the Japanese companies are concerned, no one is being fired (during Covid-19). This means that from the 340,000 Malaysian workers, not even one is being fired. So that is the beauty of that,ā€ he said.

Earlier on, Riot also presented RM20,000 to SMK Serian Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) during his work visit to the school car park project which cost RM150,000, under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP).

The SMK Serian car park project is currently in 80 percent progress, ahead of schedule, and the work is expected to be done in the next two-week. ā€“DayakDaily.
