KUCHING, July 8: The Rembus Depot will not only fulfil the highest operational, technical and safety standards, but also support efficient day-to-day operations once the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system begins service.
A delegation from the Ministry of Transport Sarawak, led by Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, visited the Rembus Depot construction site in Kota Samarahan today to review the latest progress of the key Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) infrastructure project.
During the site visit, Lee was briefed by Sarawak Metro chief executive officer Ts Mazli Mustaffa on the development progress of the depot, which will serve as the main operations and maintenance hub for the KUTS.
Lee stressed that close communication and cooperation between Sarawak Metro and the Rembus Depot contractor, AIU JV — a joint venture between Azam Sehasrat Sdn Bhd, IJM Construction Sdn Bhd and Unique Deco Sdn Bhd — are crucial to ensuring construction progresses smoothly and remains on schedule.
He also underscored the importance of continuous collaboration among contractors, utility providers, government departments and relevant agencies throughout the construction period.
“Close coordination among all parties before and during construction is important to minimise disruptions to utility services and ensure the project progresses efficiently.
“I believe continuous collaboration among stakeholders will contribute to the successful delivery of the project,” he said in a press release today.
Lee also reminded all parties involved to continue prioritising safety throughout the construction phase.
Meanwhile, Mazli reaffirmed Sarawak Metro’s commitment to delivering a depot that meets stringent operational, technical and safety requirements.
“Our focus is on building a facility that not only fulfils all technical and safety requirements, but also supports efficient day-to-day operations once the ART system begins service.
“That is why we are working closely with all our partners to ensure every component is delivered to the highest standards,” he said.
Located in Kota Samarahan, the Rembus Depot will house several critical facilities, including the administration and operations control centre, mechanical and infrastructure workshops, stabling yard, test track, hydrogen production plant and hydrogen refuelling facilities.
The depot is expected to play a central role in supporting the operations, maintenance and long-term reliability of the KUTS ART system.
Also present during the site visit was Deputy Minister for Transport Sarawak (Aviation and Road) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil. — DayakDaily
