KUCHING, March 5: Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin has urged the Sarawak government to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) to revive the Borneo Highlands Resort in Padawan, which has remained closed since the Covid-19 pandemic.

During his debate on the king’s speech in the Dewan Rakyat in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (March 4), he said the resort has the potential to contribute to Sarawak’s tourism sector.

“This place has potential, but it needs leadership, marketing, and management that are strategic and effective,” he said.

Meanwhile, in his speech, he also requested for a new road from Kampung Giam Lama to Kampung Git to be built, including a reinforced concrete bridge, as well as a road from Kampung Sorot to Kampung Bunuk along with a concrete bridge.

Additionally, he requested that the Federal government channel funds to the Sarawak government to repair collapsed roads, slope failures, and sinkholes at Kampung Paran–Sapit, Kampung Semedang–Danu, Kampung Kaka –Kiding, Jalan Puncak Borneo, and Kampung Sorot–Bunuk.

He also suggested that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Malaysia and the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister’s Department allocate funds for the coffee planting project in Puncak Borneo following the announcement that Puncak Borneo will be a ‘coffee belt’ in Sarawak.

At the same time, the Puncak Borneo MP also requested the relevant ministry to improve telecommunication coverage in his area and to set up Starlink services in Kampung Nyegol, Kampung Muk Ayun, Kampung Sting, and Kampung Semban, as these places are tourist attractions. — DayakDaily
