KUCHING, March 14: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth Central secretary-general Milton Foo is urging the general public to not speculate over the alleged murder of four-year-old Eric Chang.

While he empathised with the public’s mixed feelings of anxiety, anger and sadness over the boy’s death, he reminded them to stay calm and be patient.

“Do not make any speculations or wild allegations (regarding the case). Give room to the police to investigate the case thoroughly and professionally.

“Let justice be seen and be done for little Eric Chang Wei Jie and prosecute the suspects, if any, to the Court of Law. We will leave it to the police to review their final investigation on this matter,” he said at a press conference at SUPP Headquarters in Kuching today.

He also thanked all parties including the police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) for their help in the search for the missing boy in and around Muara Tebas.

Yesterday, the police released a statement at 8pm confirming they are reclassifying the investigation from under Section 31(1)(1) of the Child Act 2001 for negligence and neglect of child care to Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Eric Chang is believed to have been murdered and his body was placed in a polystyrene box before it was dumped at Muara Tebas Wharf on Sunday (March 6).

The search for his body around the Muara Tebas River and the vicinity entered its second day today.

He was first reported missing from Taman Riverview, Bintawa on March 7 while under the care of a friend of his mother, Dynasty Chang. – DayakDaily
