KUCHING, June 15: Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang hopes that any prosecution against unscrupulous writers and media portals for insulting the Sarawak Premier could take place in Sarawak courts.

He stated, “We want to see you all face-to-face” .

Idris believes that Sarawak would prefer the prosecution to occur locally, where most police reports were lodged.

As of Thursday, June 13, at least six police reports had been filed in Sarawak against a Malayan content creator for allegedly accusing Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg of “picking a fight” through his provocative articles.

Idris, who is also a lawyer and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Information Chief, warned writers and media organisations against irresponsible practices of publishing unfounded, misleading, and defamatory content, as the ripple effects are far-reaching.

“Stop making or publishing such provocative articles full of gibberish.

“We do not wish to respond to your statements (articles) because it is already in the hands of the police and MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) now.

“All you need to do is answer the authorities, especially of your intention and purpose of putting up such offensive and malicious content,” he claimed in a statement today.

Idris emphasised that writers who engage in such unethical practices not only compromise their integrity but also the integrity of the platforms that publish their work, stressing that ethical journalism and content creation require a commitment to truth and accountability.

Previously, Idris opined that writers with malicious intention are out to destabilise Sarawak, including manipulating the opinions and perceptions of Sarawakians towards their leaders.

The content creator had written that Abang Johariā€™s achievements so far were due to sheer luck and suggested that his luck would run out soon, followed by a second article accusing Abang Johari of picking a fight with him. ā€” DayakDaily
