KUCHING, May 12: A police report was lodged today at the Satok Police Station over a Facebook post allegedly insulting Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his family.
Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Abdul Samat Gany, told reporters that the post, published under the account name “Mike Rain,” contained statements deemed offensive and degrading towards the State’s top leader.
“We view the post as inciting hatred, insulting, and damaging to the dignity of our State leader. It also involves his family members,” he said.

According to him, the post had been widely circulated and accessible to the public before it was eventually taken down by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
He expressed concern that such content could disrupt public harmony, particularly in Sarawak, and called for firm action to be taken under the Sedition Act 1948, the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, or other relevant laws.
“We hope the authorities will investigate and take appropriate action against the individual behind the account,” he added.
Also present in support of the police report were fellow political secretaries to the Sarawak Premier—Niponi Undek, Rosaline Neging, Susan Clement, Damien Rejek, John Nyigor, Abang Abdul Aziz Abang Draup, and Thomas Balan.
Abdul Samat further revealed that a similar police report had been lodged in Sibu by political secretaries William Anut and Joshua Ting Fu Ying, as part of a coordinated effort by supporters of the Premier.

When asked how the group came across the post, Abdul Samat said they are always alert to online content that may incite hatred or provoke the public against State leaders.
He also reminded the public to be responsible when posting on social media, especially regarding sensitive political matters.
“If you want to comment on current affairs, do so with facts and sound reasoning—not with emotion or offensive language,” he said, lamenting the post’s use of harsh and vile language, including personal attacks on the Premier’s family and lineage.
He urged netizens to engage in respectful discourse and refrain from publishing content that could incite hatred or threaten social harmony. — DayakDaily
