Police raid cockfighting den, arrest five men in Miri

MIRI, Oct 7: Police arrested five older men during a cockfighting bust in an open area around Miri City on Saturday evening (Oct 5).

The operation, dubbed Ops Dadu, was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri) starting at 6pm.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspects, aged between 56 and 75, were apprehended at the scene.

During the raid, police also confiscated two live chickens and equipment used for cockfighting.

“An investigation paper has been opened, and the case is being investigated under Section 73(1)(g) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999,” said Alexson.

Initial investigations revealed that all suspects admitted to gathering in the area to gamble on cockfights.

Police are urging the public to refrain from engaging in illegal gambling activities and to report any information related to such activities.

The public may contact the nearest police station or call the IPD Miri hotline at 085-433730 to report any suspicious behavior.
