KUCHING, Sept 30: Police investigations into the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Baram, on Sept 8 are nearing completion, with no evidence of foul play detected so far.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said police had recorded statements from several witnesses and conducted investigations at locations visited by the passengers and the helicopter before the crash.
However, he said the investigation had yet to establish the actual cause of the tragedy.
“So far, we have not seen any indication of foul play or other elements of that nature. We believe it may have been caused by a technical problem, but this will depend on the investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau, which has the expertise to determine the actual cause,” he said as reported by TVS.
Speaking to reporters after the Sarawak Police Contingent’s Monthly Assembly today, Mohamad Zainal said the police investigation papers would be submitted to the coroner once reports from the relevant agencies had been received.
The FDS helicopter crashed and caught fire near the end of the STOLport runway in Long Lellang on Sept 8, killing all five people on board.
The victims were pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamarudin, nurses Jessie Paya Jok and Debra Moset, and medical assistant Alexson Adit Henry. — DayakDaily
