KUCHING, April 17: Police are on the lookout for an Indonesian man suspected of being involved in a fatal altercation which resulted in the death of his fellow countryman who was hacked with a machete at an oil palm plantation in Pantu, Sri Aman yesterday.
According to a news report by TVS, Sri Aman police chief Superintendent Dennis Bunyam stated that they are actively continuing efforts to track down and apprehend the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Bakri Zaini, whose last known address was at Golden Fame Plantation Pantu, Sri Aman.
“Members of the public with information regarding the current whereabouts of the suspect are urged to immediately report the matter to the Sri Aman Police Station at 083-322121 or contact the Investigating Officer, ASP Kalang Buda, head of the District Criminal Investigation Department, at 019-3317785, or report to any nearby police station,” he was quoted as saying in a statement today.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 / 435 of the Penal Code.
The incident, reported yesterday at 4.30pm, involved a 35-year-old Indonesian worker who was killed after being attacked with a machete by another Indonesian national at the plantation.
Crime scene investigation found the victim lying motionless with visible injuries to the neck, right arm, right hand, right thigh, and the sole of his foot, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon, presumably a machete.
Before fleeing the scene, the suspect had set fire to the workers’ quarters, resulting in 12 units being completely destroyed.
TVS reported that the motive behind the attack is believed to have stemmed from a personal dispute or dissatisfaction between the suspect and the victim. – DayakDaily
