Police: Man being beaten up in viral video is ‘old case’, suspect already accused in court

KUCHING, Oct 6: A viral video showing a man being beaten up by a group of people is an old case with the suspect already accused in court, says Padawan district police chief, Superintendent Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad.

Abang Zainal clarified that the man beaten in the video was a suspect in a metal theft case on August 25 at a shop at Jalan Stephen Yong.

According to him, the suspect was arrested by members of the public with the help of a security guard.


“Both parties have made a police report, and the completed investigation papers have been referred to the Deputy Prosecutor’s Office.

“The suspect involved was charged on Sept 1 for the offence of theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for possession of an offensive weapon,” he said in a statement yesterday (Oct 5).

He also reminded the public not to speculate about the incident without any confirmed information, as it can cause panic and confusion among the public. — DayakDaily
