KUCHING, Oct 6: The FLYsiswa flight ticket subsidy worth RM300 for public university students has been extended to benefit those from polytechnics and community colleges under the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) as well as matriculations and teachers’ learning institutes (IPGs) under the Ministry of Education (MoE) effective today.

The FLYsiswa flight subsidy is an initiative introduced by the Malaysian government on July 12, 2023, to strengthen ties between Peninsular, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, apart from addressing the issue of cost of living.

According to the Malaysian Ministry of Transport (MOT), the students of polytechnics, community colleges, matriculations, and IPGs can check their eligibility for the subsidy through the Ministry’s website at https://subsidiudara.mot.gov.my/.

To date, only students registered at public universities, polytechnics, community colleges, matriculation, and IPGs for the 2022/2023 academic session and who have not completed their studies after the academic session are eligible for the subsidy.

“Eligible students can apply for the purchase of flight tickets from any airline such as Malaysia Airlines (including MASwings and FireFly), AirAsia, Batik Air, and MYAirline selected by the student through the said airline’s website.

“If the student is found to be ineligible, the student can appeal to the MoHE or MoE through their respective educational institutions,” the Ministry said in a press release today.

The MOT further said that upon receiving the application, the selected airline will issue the student a digital voucher worth RM300 as a credit shell to purchase flight tickets.

If the price of the purchased ticket is less than RM300, the balance of the digital voucher will remain in the credit shell and can be used for the next ticket purchase.

The voucher redemption deadline for purchasing flight tickets is December 31, 2023. However, purchasing flight tickets for travel after the voucher redemption deadline is permitted. — DayakDaily
