KUCHING, May 2: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has reached out to Deputy Minister of Communications, Teo Nie Ching, seeking assistance in identifying the scammers responsible for defrauding a victim of RM24,890 through a job scam on the Facebook page ‘Kuching Job Vacancy’.

In Chong’s letter dated May 2, it is mentioned that the victim, known as Loh, fell victim to a job scam posted by a Facebook user named ‘Ryan Don’ on the Facebook page ‘Kuching Job Vacancy’.

“Upon establishing contact via the Facebook page, the victim proceeded to communicate with the scammer using the handle @ming56841 on Telegram.

“He was then defrauded of RM24,890. He transferred the funds to the following bank accounts: Shahril Iskandar Ishak (AmBank), Mohd Saiful Amri Karim (CIMB), and Roshidah Awang (CIMB),” read the letter.

Chong, who is also the chairman of Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak, emphasised that there is an ongoing investigation by Public Bank regarding a transfer from the victim’s account to Roshidah’s account.

As a result, the victim is currently unable to access his own Public Bank account to print the transfer slip.

“While the police are investigating the case, we discovered that the aforementioned ‘Ryan Don’ is still advertising its job scam on the ‘Kuching Job Vacancy’ Facebook page.”

He further alleged that the admin of the Facebook Page ‘Kuching Job Vacancy’ should be held more accountable for the job ads posted on the page.

“In the case of Loh, this ‘Kuching Job Vacancy’ Facebook page has been used as a platform for scams, which has resulted in Loh’s losses,” Chong claimed. — DayakDaily
