MIRI, June 13: Power supply disruptions affecting nine areas in Senadin and Kuala Baram are being carried out in stages according to the movement of logistics vehicles and related works at the affected locations.

According to Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, the phased approach is important to ensure safety, particularly involving heavy vehicle routes and electrical infrastructure in the area.

“This is because many vehicles are transporting large and oversized cargo today. When passing through areas with overhead power lines, there can be safety risks if the cargo comes too close, including the possibility of electric shocks.

“Therefore, the implementation is being carried out area by area,” he said during the Mobile Friendly Sales Programme at SK Merbau here today, as reported by TVS.

He added that the measure had been agreed upon with relevant parties, including Sarawak Energy, to ensure that power supply disruptions are minimised and do not occur simultaneously across all affected areas for an extended period.

Meanwhile, he said that efforts are being made with logistics operators to establish schedules for the movement of heavy vehicles so that advance notice can be provided to affected residents.

“Through this approach, we can inform the public earlier according to specific areas and timeframes, allowing them to make the necessary preparations,” he added.

At the same time, the transportation of heavy and oversized cargo is currently being undertaken from Kuala Baram (Heng Da Wharf) to the project site of the Miri Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant in Lutong, Miri, which is one of Sarawak’s major energy infrastructure projects.

The transportation of the large-scale equipment requires the use of specialised trailers, traffic control vehicles, and escort vehicles to ensure smooth and safe movement along the route.

Members of the public travelling along routes between Kuala Baram, Senadin, and Lutong are advised to exercise caution and follow the instructions of traffic personnel when the heavy vehicle convoys pass through the area.

The CCGT project is expected to increase the movement of heavy vehicles around the construction site throughout the implementation phase of the project. — DayakDaily
