KUCHING, June 13: Former opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has officially marked a new chapter in the country’s political landscape with the launch of a new political party, Parti Wawasan Negara.

The official unveiling took place today during the live-streamed Malaysia Reset Convention (Konvensyen Reset Malaysia) held in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, which was officially officiated by Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Speaking at the convention, Hamzah revealed that the inspiration behind the new party’s name came directly from Abdul Hadi.

“However, since we have just been birthed and not raised by (Abdul Hadi), we do not know where our direction is. Thus, we want to be with PAS, Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) and other component parties.

“InsyaAllah we will work together to form a more comprehensive and convincing partnership,” he said.

The newly formed party serves as the political vehicle for the ‘Reset Malaysia’ movement, which Hamzah founded alongside a faction of former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Members of Parliament and grassroots members following his expulsion from Bersatu in February.

Hamzah also announced that the new political party is scheduled to host its inaugural annual general assembly as early as next week.

The high-profile convention drew heavyweights from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, with key figures in attendance including Abdul Hadi and PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who also serves as the PN chairman. — DayakDaily
