KUCHING, Mar 25: Pet shops and veterinary clinics are allowed to operate from 7am to 7pm.

According to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, the State Disaster Management Committee had agreed to allow the operation of pet shops and veterinary clinics during Movement Control Order (MCO).

“It has been found that Covid-19 does not transmit from pets to human. Pets, like us, also need food and thus the decision to allow the operation of pet shops and veterinary clinics,” Wee told DayakDaily.

He said gradually, more and more businesses offering essential services and food will be allowed to operate.

Meanwhile, he said following the implementation of MCO, MBKS Enforcement Team has been inspecting supermarkets within MBKS areas.

The inspection is to ensure that the supermarkets’ operators are complying with the Movement Control Order and are taking all the necessary precautionary measures which include following the Social Distancing Guidelines.

“Social distancing is most important. When you enter a supermarket, there is a hand sanitiser provided at the entrance, do use it,” said Wee.

On the use of masks, Wee said the main problem to make it mandatory was the lack of masks.

However, he called on Sarawakians who have masks to wear them whenever they are going around to buy essentials.

“Somehow, many are very comfortable with putting on masks. This is the first time that people are wearing masks when they operate business in Stutong Market. It is a good practice that we would like to encourage.

“These people wearing masks are hoping that others would also reciprocate by wearing masks. It is a precautionary measure people are taking,” said Wee. —DayakDaily
