KUCHING, Mar 25: A total of 73 Ministry of Health (MoH) health personnel have been detected to be infected with Covid-19, as of noon today.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah however emphasised that the infection of the health personnel was not due to managing Covid-19 patients in the public health facilities.

“Of the total number of cases, it was found that the cause of infection for 47 cases (or 64.4 per cent) was related to weddings which was also attended by those attending the tabligh gathering.

“Other causes include travel history and close contact with family of Covid-19 positive cases,” he told a daily press conference on Covid-19 today.

Dr Noor Hisham informed that a total of 1,895 MOH health personnel managing Covid-19 patients at the public health facilities had undergone tests, of which 1,187 tested negative while 708 were still pending laboratory results while none tested positive.

He urged all healthcare personnel and frontliners to inform their respective heads of departments if they were directly involved or had been in contact with identified Covid-19 clusters namely the Sri Petaling tabligh congregation that took place on Feb 27 to March 3, as well as weddings on March 6 in Bangi or March 7 at Putrajaya attended by healthcare personnel. —DayakDaily
