KUCHING, March 14: Pending Recreational Park just outside the MBKS indoor stadium has gotten a facelift after recently completed upgrading works which cost nearly RM500,000.

Other than a new rainbow-coloured pergola with benches in the middle of the park, there are four new fitness equipment units and a new integrated playground set for the kids.

The softscape, walkway and existing facilities such as the iconic swing in a bird cage were either upgraded or repainted.

Additionally, new entrance signage was installed at the junction along Jalan Utama leading to the park, indoor stadium and sports village.

Earlier today, the contractor symbolically handed over Pending Recreational Park back to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng following project completion on Dec 7, 2022.

Wee said this is only the first stage of the council’s park revamp project and there will be more phases to come.

“Of course we are going to continue, like what I promised when I became mayor. We will touch up one park every year, give a park a new facelift.

“For the next one (park), we are waiting for the minister to approve. So, if there’s any feedback, let us know. We will try to make it better for this area,” he said to the press this morning.

As for future events, he suggested that the annual mooncake festival be held at the Pending Recreational Park since the park is huge, covering an area of more than five acres.

Meanwhile, Wee also urged event organisers and community leaders to send in their proposals should they wish to hold any festivals or functions at the parks under MBKS’ jurisdiction.
