KUCHING, Apr 19: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will continue to introduce new faces at every election as part of its leadership renewal process, while maintaining a balance between experienced leaders and younger members, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Speaking at a press conference after the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Convention 2026, he said PBB and its GPS coalition partners have a structured approach to leadership continuity, where senior leaders mentor younger members before they are gradually entrusted with greater responsibilities.

“At each election, there will be new faces. In every cycle, perhaps two or three new individuals come in, sometimes even more,” he said.

While emphasising renewal, Abang Johari stressed that experience remains a key pillar of governance, noting that leadership within GPS is built on collective effort involving both senior and emerging figures.

“We are all still learning in politics. I am still learning, together with others in the leadership. Experience matters and when responsibilities are given, we continue the culture of mentorship and continuity,” he said.

He added that younger leaders develop at different paces, and the priority is to ensure they are properly guided within a structured framework.

At the same time, the Premier cautioned against emotional responses when expectations are not met, stressing that political service requires patience and sincerity.

“If things do not go as expected, there should not be unnecessary disappointment or emotional reactions. We must not take things personally because our intention is for service,” he said.

Beyond leadership renewal, he also highlighted that women continue to be included in the party’s leadership structure, underscoring GPS’ commitment to inclusivity.

He further said that decision-making within GPS is collective in nature, likening it to a family approach where discussions are held together to ensure long-term stability and direction. — DayakDaily
