PBB Betong Zone proposes 12 new parliamentary seats for Sarawak

BETONG, Oct 8: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Betong Zone has proposed that the number of parliamentary seats in Sarawak be increased in line with the quest for one-third representation for Sabah and Sarawak in the Dewan Rakyat.

PBB vice president Datuk Julaihi Narawi said this was among the nine resolutions made and agreed upon unanimously during the Special PBB Convention for Betong Zone held at Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan today.


“In Sarawak, we can consider at least 12 new parliamentary constituencies and for Betong Zone, we can consider at least three new parliamentary constituencies,” he said at the Convention’s opening ceremony.

Touching on the other eight resolutions, Julaihi said PBB Betong Zone members have pledged unwavering support to party president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to continue leading PBB and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in ensuring political stability in Sarawak and Malaysia.

The party members also give full trust and confidence to the leadership of PBB and GPS to lead Sarawak in ensuring the rights enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report 1962, and the Federal Constitution are returned by the Unity Government at the Federal level as promised.

Thirdly, the party members pledged support to the strategic steps of PBB and GPS as partners in forming the Unity government at the federal level and demanded that federal leaders give cooperation and due respect to PBB and GPS representatives in fighting for the rights and interests of Sarawak.

Fourthly, the party members are determined to ensure that PBB’s status and role remain dominant as the backbone party for GPS leadership and the Sarawak government.

The fifth resolution saw the party members collectively remind GPS component parties that any steps and decisions that may jeopardise the spirit of togetherness, understanding, and stability of the GPS should be referred to the proper channel.

In the sixth resolution, the party members expressed commitment to ensure that Sarawak could achieve the status of a high-income developed State by 2030 based on the policies and planning of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

Apart from that, PBB also fully supported the New Economic Policy, which is based on the Green Economy and the Hydrogen Economy and the initiatives taken by Abang Johari to transform Sarawak’s economy to be based on the legislation and the matters enshrined in MA63, IGC Report and the Sarawak State Constitution in accordance with the Unity Government’s memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on Dec 16, 2022.

Last but not least, the party members are determined to ensure unity among people of multiple races, religions, and cultures in Sarawak can be preserved and strengthened so that the community can live in peace and harmony.

The event was officiated by Abang Johari, who was accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.

Also present at the event were Deputy Premiers-cum-PBB deputy presidents Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; PBB senior vice president Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom; vice president Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; permanent chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi. — DayakDaily
