KUCHING, Oct 8: Sarawak’s total sales and service tax (SST) collection for petroleum and gas from 2019 to now is RM14.9 billion, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“This contributed to an increase in Sarawak’s income, and it is the State’s right to collect SST from petroleum and gas since 2019,” he said at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Convention for Betong Zone held at Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan today.

He said this was made possible by the bold decision of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who established Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in 2018 with the slogan ‘Sarawak First’.

“We should applaud this bold decision by the Sarawak Premier, and now we learn this decision is the best for Sarawak,” he said.

Uggah also pointed out that GPS is now a strong coalition that can defend the rights of Sarawak.

“With that, Sarawak has the right to implement the collection of five per cent SST for petroleum and gas starting from 2019,” said Uggah.

Apart from Abang Johari, also present at the event were Deputy Premier-cum-PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan; PBB senior vice president Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom; vice president Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; permanent chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; and secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi. — DayakDaily
