KUCHING, Oct 8: Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Embas Uggah calls on party grassroots members in rural areas to be on the alert for certain groups of irresponsible people who have divisive agendas against the party.

Uggah who is also Deputy Sarawak Premier claimed that these irresponsible groups would spread mendacious information through platforms that the government never issued land titles to Dayak Native Customary Rights (NCR) land owners.

He said these groups are good for spreading rumours, deceit and lies on such an issue to instigate people in rural areas to hate PBB and the government.

“I urged grassroots members not to believe and listen to these instigators at the longhouses (villages). You can confront them on social media, report them to the police, and you could even sue them,” he advised.

Uggah made these remarks during the Special PBB Convention for Betong Zone in conjunction with Sarawak’s 60th Anniversary held at Dewan Tan Sri Datuk Stephen Kalong Ningkan, Betong, today.

He also said that the political landscape in Sarawak in the future will be more challenging.

“First, the number of new voters has increased with the voting age limit lowered to 18 years. Second, digital technology, data innovation, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality will change the way we live in the future and the way we do politics,” he opined.

Uggah reminded PBB members that they must be ready to face the various challenges that will come.

“We are lucky because we have the PBB President and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is our role model, who has values and character, as an example to the members of our party,” he said. — DayakDaily
