Pasai Cluster spreads to Subis, Belaga as Sarawak sees 156 new cases of Covid-19

KUCHING, Jan 19: The Covid-19 cases from the Pasai Cluster continue to spread to more areas in Sarawak with Subis district in Miri and Belaga district in Kapit being the latest two new locations to record infections from the cluster.

Sarawak today registered 156 new cases of Covid-19.


The additional cases have pushed the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 2,367 cases.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a press statement today said the positive cases were identified in Sibu (65), Miri (28), Kanowit (24), Beluru (15), Sarikei (10), Sebauh (3), Kuching (2), Bintulu (2), Subis (2), Dalat (1), Belaga (1), Meradong (1), Samarahan (1) and Daro (1).

In particular, the Pasai Cluster in Sibu has witnessed an increase of 91 new cases identified in Sibu (33), Kanowit (23), Beluru (15), Sarikei (10), Miri (5), Subis (2), Dalat (1), Belaga (1), Daro (1).

As a result, two districts namely Subis and Belaga were two new areas infected from the Pasai Cluster.

SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the Subis and Belaga districts have turned into yellow zones from green zones of Covid-19 after three new cases involving local transmission were reported in the past fortnight.

“Today, Kanowit district has turned from a yellow status to orange after 29 cases of local transmission were reported in the district in the past 14 days.

“Sebauh district remains in the orange zone with 27 cases of local transmission, while Kuching, Sibu, Miri and Beluru maintain in the red zones with 905 cases of local transmission.

“Betong, Meradong, Julau, Kapit, Simunjan, Asajaya, Dalat, Selangau, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Bukit Mabong, Bintulu, Limbang, and Kanowit are in the yellow zones with 79 cases of local transmission in the past 14 days,” he said during a press conference when announcing the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today.

Uggah who is also Deputy Chief Minister added there were 19 patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from the hospitals.

At the moment, a total of 1,147 patients were being treated for Covid-19 at health facilities throughout the hospitals in Sarawak.

There were 159 new cases of Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) while 14 PUI cases were awaiting laboratory test results for their Covid-19 swab test. — DayakDaily
