MIRI, June 13: A 33-year-old local woman was killed in a suspected hit-and-run accident while attempting to cross the Pan Borneo Highway near the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sekaloh office in Niah, Miri, early this morning.
Miri District Police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said police received a report on the fatal road accident, which occurred at about 6am along the highway stretch between Miri and Niah.
Initial investigations found that the victim, who was crossing the road from the left side to the right side, was believed to have been struck by an unidentified vehicle travelling from Miri towards Niah.
The driver and vehicle involved have yet to be identified.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at about 8.04am by a medical assistant from Batu Niah Health Clinic.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
