MIRI, May 27: The remaining 4.5km of the Lambir section (Sungai Tangap-Pujut Link Road works package or WPC11) of the Pan Borneo Highway is expected for completion by 2026.

According to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, due to some issues on that section, they have decided to build a 400m viaduct, which is a long bridge-like structure carrying a road or railway across a valley or other low ground.

“We have decided to build a viaduct at this particular section after some continuous land movements were found.

“Construction work on the viaduct is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2025,” he told local media today during his visit to the site.

Also seen at the site accompanying Nanta was Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak North Region Pan Borneo Highway manager Siaw Ming Chian.

He added the construction work of the viaduct will not disrupt traffic as motorists can still use the existing road.

Overall, the percentage of actual physical progress of the WPC 11 package is 89 per cent (not including the construction of the viaduct and the relocation of the 4.5km-long water supply pipe utility).

“The first phase of the Pan Borneo Highway is 94 per cent completed, excluding this section,” Nanta added.

Tomorrow (May 28), he will be in Sibu for a similar visit. — DayakDaily
