KUCHING, June 26: Over 2,000 handmade Chinese fried spice doughnuts (“Ham Chim Peng”) were among donations from the Kuching society to frontliners through the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) this week.

Its mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the snacks were prepared by The Dance Academy for the medical officers and volunteers at Stadium Perpaduan, Petra Jaya.

He said another group of people known as Steven Chai and friends also brought some 2,100 boxes of self-packaged cakes with different flavours and 99 boxes of drinking water to the stadium.

Teig & Bakery also prepared two batches of food including sandwiches, egg tarts and apple pies, one for the workers at Kozi Square and another for those at the Covid-19 One Stop Centre, Padungan here.

Apart from these desserts and titbits, Kok Siong Electrical Sdn Bhd and JCI Damai bought altogether three electrical standing fans for vaccine recipients at the stadium.

Wee also noted other donations of drinking water, face masks, hand sanitisers and dried foods by CLZ Resources, Hi-Bee Resources, SHM Development, Sarawak Chawan Association, Wan Li Wan Welding Works, Fiona Music Centre, Mr Yap and family, MBKS councillors Cr Chai, Cr Kho and Cr Goh.

To all the donors, he expressed utmost appreciation and gratitude for their kindness during this Covid-19 pandemic.

“This week, we also received a lot of donations in terms of food and drinks from kind-hearted people for the frontliners in vaccination centres.

“I would like to thank everyone who have given a helping hand during such dire times. Be it small or big, I personally think the contributions carry all your love.

“It’s not about giving more or less, but the continuance of such loving spirit is more important,” he said during his weekly Facebook live session today.

Ever since the mayor brought up the issue of drinking water shortage for frontliners at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) in his live streaming several weeks ago, many tender-hearted people in Kuching including private companies, associations and individuals have volunteered to contribute their share. — DayakDaily
