KUCHING, Dec 3: Former Prime Minister-turned-Opposition leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin claims that the new Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim had thrown away his good governance principles as promised in his election campaigning when he appointed a ‘kleptocrat’ into the Federal Cabinet.

Muhyiddin described the new Cabinet led by Anwar as the “most disappointing lineup in the nation’s history” after a high-profile person who was called on trial for 47 bribery, criminal breach of trust (CBT), and money laundering charges in court was appointed as the deputy prime minister (DPM).

“Anwar’s actions are like selling the country’s honour simply because he wants to be the prime minister.

“This kleptocrat Cabinet formed on the basis of fraud against the mandate of the people does not have any legitimacy to function as the highest executive body of the country,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, further said that with Anwar holding the Finance Minister portfolio, this would lead to a practice of centralisation of power and large-scale misappropriation, as happened in the case of 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad).

“How can the people and investors believe in Anwar’s leadership when he has outright lied to the whole world about the anti-corruption agenda, institutional reform, and defending the fate of the common people?

“His principles of integrity, transparency, and accountability are clearly compromised,” he added.

Without naming names, Muhyiddin also alleged that certain MPs who are known for their extreme chauvinism are appointed to lead certain ministries, and this will invite controversy with extreme racist policies will be introduced.

“His reform agenda rings hollow when he could not even stand up in defence of his own party’s struggle to fight against corruption and promote good governance. His worth as a true leader worthy of respect and dignity is now highly questionable,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
