KUCHING, Dec 3: Association of Sarawak Inbound Agencies’s (ASIA) latest event ‘Sarawak Road Trip: Self Drive Travel Guide’ will allow local and foreign tourists to explore Sarawak’s “own backyard” tourism destinations by road.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this event is organised for the first time to allow tourists to drive their own vehicles to identified tourism destinations.

“I hope that a product like this will be well received because it gives visitors and tourists more freedom to explore at their own time and pace,” he said during the launching ceremony of the ASIA’s ‘Sarawak Road Trip: Self Drive Travel Guide’ held at Kuching Waterfront here today.

MTCP permanent secretary Datu Hii Chang Kii was among those present.

Abdul Karim added that the guidebooks in English, Malay as well as in Chinese versions will be available to expedite their journey.

The objective of ‘Sarawak Road Trip: Self Drive Travel Guide’ is to encourage Sarawakians to explore their “own backyard” by road, with the long term aim of enhancing inbound tourism by offering more travel options for both domestic and international visitors.

The road trip also comes with a guidebook that features 20 road trips in the three regions of Sarawak namely Kuching, Sibu and Miri, which are the major cities serving as hubs from which to explore some less well-known places and provides the basic routes and suggestions for accommodation, restaurants and attractions for the selected trips.
