MIRI, Dec 3: The ‘Taste of Indonesia’ fair not only promotes food products from the country but also proves that food can bring together people from all walks of life.

According to Miri City Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang, the two-day event, which started on Dec 2, is one of the efforts made by the Miri City Council (MCC) to promote closer rapport among the Borneo nations for mutual interests and benefits.

“We have a similar food culture with Indonesia since we have Indonesians who have been working (for a long time) in Miri City in various industries, including a number of them who are now working in the food shops and restaurants.

“Perhaps in the future, we will develop some food favourites which are unique and different,” Yii said while officiating at the fair at Everrise Supermarket in Bintang Megamall Miri today, where Miri City Deputy Mayor Julaihi Mohamad read out his speech.

He also hoped that this fair would begin a series of interactions between Sarawak and Indonesia.

Also present were the Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching, Raden Sigit Witjaksono; Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Dr Sujatmiko; and La Trinidad Municipality Mayor, Romeo Kimo Salda. — DayakDaily
