KUCHING, March 31: Missing child Eric Chang’s babysitter and husband will be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the mandatory death penalty if convicted.

Kuching Police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said both suspects will be brought to the Kuching Court Complex and charged today.

He said the couple will also be charged for possessing five arrest warrants under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 while one of them will be charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which is for theft in a dwelling house.

“The investigation paper (of Eric’s case) was completed and referred to the Sarawak Regional Director of Prosecution’s office,” he said during press conference at Kuching District Police Headquarters here today.

Touching on the results of the investigation, Ahsmon said the police confiscated a Perodua Viva, surveillance footage, a few tools, some clothes and three mobile phones, which they believed to be involved with the case.

He also admitted to the press that police investigations found a motive involved in this case, but refused to reveal any other details.

“This is indeed a tragic and sad case. A four-year-old child should have been protected and taken care of under the wings of his parents and guardians, but now he is a victim of crime,” he lamented.

Eric’s body has not been found since he went missing on March 9.

Ahsmon said the police continue to welcome any information from the public regarding Eric for further action. — DayakDaily
