‘Miring’ for Gawai Dayak in CMCO areas limited to 20 persons max

KUCHING, May 20: The ‘miring’ ceremony for the upcoming Hari Gawai Dayak festival in areas under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) is limited to 20 persons maximum.

According to the latest standard operating procedures (SOPs) approved by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) released by the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) updated today (May 21), the ceremony can only be organised in an area specified by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

The delivery of memorial poles and related activities is also limited to 20 persons while wearing facemasks and adhering to physical distancing of at least one metre must be practised by all attendees.

The unit said individuals who developed symptoms of Covid-19 such as fever, cough or flu are not allowed to attend the ‘miring’ ceremony.

Unifor stressed that ‘miring’ ceremony in Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) areas is prohibited. — DayakDaily
