KUCHING, Feb 22: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) advised the public to be wary of fake websites masquerading as the ministry’s official platform when searching for licensed travel companies.

In a statement yesterday, it said, fake websites via links such as https://www.motacgov.com/semakan/tobtab/#/ and https://www.motacgov.com/#/ were likely created by irresponsible parties to deceive users with false information or provide services not recognised by MOTAC.

In this regard, MOTAC emphasises that all official information regarding tourism companies and licensed tour guides can only be accessed through the official MOTAC website at https://www.motac.gov.my/.

“The public is advised to always verify the authenticity of the website before conducting any transactions to avoid becoming a victim of fraud.

“MOTAC is also taking appropriate actions to address this issue, including collaborating with the relevant authorities to block and shut down the fake websites,” it said.

Anyone with information on suspicious websites or who has fallen victim to fraud related to this matter can report to MOTAC through the following channels:

MOTAC is committed to protecting the interests of tourists and licensed tourism industry players.

Therefore, cooperation from the public is greatly appreciated to ensure that the country’s tourism sector continues to grow safely and with integrity. – DayakDaily
