KUCHING, March 11: Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP), Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, has revealed that over 100,000 Bruneians enter Sarawak every month, despite Brunei’s population being around 300,000 to 400,000.

Abdul Karim, who is also Sarawak’s Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), highlighted that Brunei contributes the highest number of visitors to the State.

“Every month, more than 100,000 (Bruneians) that come into Sarawak. And that is good news.

“So from the feedback that we see, there is congestion at the Sungai Tujuh (Sungai Tujuh Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) Complex). So it has to be increased, it has to be improved. And not just Sungai Tujuh, I would love to see the one at the airport (Kuching International Airport) also, the facilities to be upgraded,” he said at a press conference held today before flagging off ‘DayakDaily D’Drift 2024’ at the DayakDaily office here.

Abdul Karim was requested to comment on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s statement regarding the approval of an RM4 million fund to enhance facilities at the Sungai Tujoh ICQS Complex in Miri.

The minister further emphasised the need for upgrades not only at KIA but also at Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri Airport, urging Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to focus on improving all airports, not just the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). — DayakDaily
