KUCHING, Dec 28: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) does not tolerate wrongdoing and will take firm action, including vigorously prosecuting cases where appropriate, in the event of misconduct.

MBKS places a strong emphasis on the integrity of the public service, and the Council expects its staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.

“At the individual level, efforts have been made to raise MBKS staff awareness of the high standard of integrity expected from them through a number of initiatives such as encouraging departments to hold briefings for their staff, to tie in with the promulgation of departmental guidelines.

“To curb the weaknesses and issues regarding governance, integrity and anti-corruption within the organisation, MBKS has come up with the Organization Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) 2022-2025, as well as the MBKS Code of Ethics, which outlines ethical guidelines and best practices for employees to follow.

“The Code of Ethics will be distributed to all the staff for their guidance and compliance,” said MBKS today in a press release.

To walk the talk, the Council has provided a channel where the public can lodge complaints concerning integrity via the MBKS website where one can download the form to lodge the complaints.

“Even with the tight system and processes, and the efforts to build strong values, there may be one who tries to circumvent the rules.

“When wrongdoing occurs, we would adopt a zero-tolerance approach and take firm action against the staff, in a decisive and transparent manner,” said MBKS.

The local council has been taking great pride in serving Kuching and its people while at the same time, upholding the public service values of integrity, service, and excellence.

MBKS also remarked that as the city council, its work has become more challenging in the era of borderless information and also to meet with the public’s high expectation of their immediate attention.

“We hope that working together with agencies like UNION, Malaysia Integrity Institute (IIM), and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), can continue to instil various form of advocacy, literacy, and awareness education about the need to cultivate the practice of integrity in the daily lives of all members of our workforce.”

The press release was issued following this morning’s Integrity Day Talk, which was organised by MBKS and officiated by its mayor, Dato Wee Hong Seng.

The talk was attended by MBKS acting city secretary Hajah Zainab Marzali, as well as other divisional managers and staff, and the speaker was Abang Nurfadli Abang Yusuf from the Integrity and Ombudsman Unit Sarawak (UNION) (Governance Section). — DayakDaily
