KUCHING, June 11: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) will host a free health outreach programme at Kenyalang Park Market on June 14 from 8am to 12pm to promote preventive healthcare and improve access to medical services.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng introduced the initiative under the theme “Working Together for a Healthier Community”, highlighting the council’s commitment to creating a clean, safe, sustainable, and caring city.

For RM10, participants can undergo an InBody analysis and receive a free consultation with a dietitian for personalised nutrition and wellness advice.

Physiotherapy services will also offer free consultations and exercise guidance to support mobility, injury prevention, and healthy living.

He added that visitors can learn about home care services and consult professionals on support options for seniors, patients, and caregivers.

Wee emphasised the importance of preventive care, noting that chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension often progress silently until reaching advanced stages.

“A simple health check today can help prevent serious health complications tomorrow,” he said.

He explained that the initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No.3 (Good Health and Well-being), No.11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and No.17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

He added that the programme also supports MBKS’ goal of becoming an age-friendly city by providing seniors with better access to health monitoring, information, and resources to remain active.

Wee said holding the event at Kenyalang Park Market would ensure convenient access to healthcare services for busy hawkers and local traders.

He thanked the partners, volunteers, and medical professionals involved, and invited all Kuching residents — especially seniors and local workers — to attend.

“Building a healthier city requires collective effort, community engagement, and accessible healthcare to improve the quality of life for all,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili, Market and Petty Traders Standing Committee chairlady Councillor Judy Kho, and representatives from BMC. — DayakDaily
