KUCHING, June 2: All eight individuals involved in a speedboat capsizing incident near Teluk Pasir Beach, Santubong, on Monday (June 1) were found safe following a swift search and rescue (SAR) operation.
In a TVS news, Sarawak Maritime director First Admiral Mohd Khairi Abd Aziz said patrol boat KILAT 22 was immediately deployed after authorities received a distress call and successfully located the victims at the reported position at 4.49pm.
Preliminary information indicated that the victims managed to swim to nearby land and rocky outcrops after the speedboat overturned amid rough sea conditions.
“Once located, all the victims were transported to Komtas jetty. An ambulance from the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) and another from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) arrived at the jetty at 6pm to conduct health assessments on the victims.
“Medical examinations confirmed that all eight victims were in good and stable condition. The SAR operation was officially concluded at 6.45pm,” he said in a statement today.
The Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) Kuching received an emergency call at 3.45pm reporting that a speedboat carrying eight people had capsized approximately 0.3 nautical miles northeast of Teluk Pasir Beach, Santubong.
Following the successful rescue, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) reaffirmed its commitment to providing emergency assistance at sea and urged the maritime community to prioritise safety at all times when conducting activities on the water, particularly during adverse weather and sea conditions. — DayakDaily
