KUCHING, July 23: The fourth victim of the boat capsize at Long Selatong in Sungai Baram, Marudi, has been recovered.
In an operational update today, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim, identified as Ceria Dullah, 43, was found at Long Miri, although the exact time of recovery has yet to be confirmed.
The victim’s identification is pending confirmation, with Bomba awaiting verification and further discussions with the family before proceeding with the next course of action.
The journey to Long Miri from the operation base takes more than two hours by road.
Earlier, three other victims had been recovered following the boat capsize involving four individuals from Kampung Long Selatong who were believed to be travelling by boat to Long San Health Clinic on July 20.
The first victim, a four-year-old boy, was recovered on July 21, while the body of a 38-year-old man was found the following day after being discovered by villagers along the riverbank.
A third victim, a 45-year-old man, was subsequently recovered as the SAR operation continued.
The incident came to light after the group failed to return home and could not be contacted, prompting concern among family members and villagers. A boat believed to have been used by the group was later found capsized in Sungai Seperot, Long Selatong, near Baram, Marudi.
The recovery of the fourth victim means all four passengers involved in the tragedy have now been accounted for. — DayakDaily
