KUCHING, Aug 8: A man who is suspected of involvement in car break-ins near Miri Bulatan Park was arrested by the police after constant surveillance by Miri City Council’s (MCC) closed-circuit television (CCTV) command centre.

MCC in a statement today said, the success behind the arrest of the suspect is due to information given by members of the public, especially the victims, and swift action from Miri Crime Investigation Department (CID) head DSP Loh Wooi Kee and his team.

ā€œOn July 21, the CCTV system captured images of a man suspected to be involved in six car break-ins that took place at Miri Bulatan Park.

ā€œThe CCTV recordings and the still image of the suspect have assisted the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the expeditious arrest of the suspect who is currently being detained by the police for further investigation,ā€ the statement read.

A tool believed to be used by the suspect for breaking into a car was found concealed in the suspect’s pants during the arrest.

MCC also thanked the general public for their confidence and support in the security and safety features installed and for the publicā€™s constant and valuable information to the councilā€™s command centre.

ā€œThe council would like to congratulate Miri CID, especially DSP Loh Wooi Kee and his team, for their quick action to apprehend the suspect.

ā€œThe council would like to call on the general public to work together to maintain the CCTVs and SOS poles, as this will be able to keep the safety of public property and park-goers in the future,ā€ it added.

Meanwhile, MCC said to date, 26 CCTV units have been installed around Miri Bulatan Park, while five SOS (Distress Signal Calling for Help) Poles were installed under the Safe Park Initiative by MCC Smart City Programme.

ā€œThis initiative will be able to make the city safer and assist the police in their crime prevention work,ā€ it said. ā€” DayakDaily
