Man falls unconscious at airport

Emergency treatment was given immediately to the victim

KUCHING, May 30: A man who had just received his chemotherapy treatment fell unconscious while on the way back to Miri today and was later pronounced dead.

The incident was reported to have happened at 12 pm when the 58-year-old victim was at the Aviation Security (AVSEC) checkpoint screening at the Kuching International Airport.


Major Ismail Mahedin from the Sarawak Civil Defence Force (APM) said the deceased from Bakong, Baram had passed away while receiving emergency treatment on the way to the hospital.

According to a family member of the victim, the deceased had just received his chemotherapy treatment at Sarawak General Hospital and was discharged from the hospital on May 29.

While at the AVSEC checkpoint screening, the victim fell unconscious due to unknown reasons.

AVSEC personnel immediately helped and laid down the unconscious victim and medical staff from the Port Health office were contacted later to attend to the unconscious victim.

APM personnel was alerted about the incident and had also rushed to the scene.

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was later requested by the APM personnel as the victim was still unconscious and Airport Fire and Rescue Service(AFRS) had managed to bring an AED to the scene.

An ambulance was summoned to the scene and had rushed the victim to the hospital for immediate treatment at 12.52 pm. -DayakDaily
