KUCHING, Dec 12: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sarawak has denied allegations that its officers were involved in a chase and had arrested Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan earlier today.

The commission said an investigation has been made into a video clip that was disseminated by Voon during the 12th Sarawak State Election campaign period.

“The Kuching MACC has tried to contact him several times but to no avail. On Dec 12 (today), the MACC officers tracked him down and met him around Kenyalang Park.

“The MACC officers explained to him about the need to come to the MACC Office to assist in the investigation. He was also handed a notice to attend the inspection under Section 30(1)(a) of the MACC Act 2009 as required by law,” it said in a statement today.

The commission also said that Voon has cooperated and appeared at the MACC Kuching office this morning to assist in the investigation.

“The MACC always maintains ethics and is professional in carrying out its duties based on the provisions of the law in force,” it added.

At the same time, Minister In The Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Dato Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in a separate statement, has clarified that Voon had not been arrested by the MACC.

The minister explained that Voon was merely called in for questioning by MACC, as a witness, to assist in an investigation pertaining to a video that recently went viral on social media.

“The MACC had tried to contact Voon several times to probe into a viral video but failed to get in touch with him.

“The agency then met him around Kenyalang Park to serve him a notice to assist in investigations under Section 30(1)(a) of the MACC Act and explained that he was needed at its Kuching office to help in the investigation,” he said.

Earlier today, Voon claimed that he was abruptly stopped by four MACC officers near Kenyalang Park around 8.30am, served a notice and escorted to MACC headquarters for questioning.

In three separate videos uploaded on his Facebook page today, Voon claimed that he was stopped while he was out driving alone and that the MACC officers followed him and seized his car key prior to asking him to follow them for questioning.

He also claimed that the officers did not properly identify themselves or indicate the offence committed by him when making the arrest, which he alleged was clear harassment. — DayakDaily
