KUCHING, 23 April: Sarawak’s efforts to reclaim its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) are being carried out in a structured and Malaysia-centric manner, with ongoing discussions at multiple levels progressing smoothly.

According to Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, negotiations between the Sarawak and federal governments remain orderly, systematic and grounded in diplomacy.

“We have established committees starting from the working committee level, which involves government officers, relevant stakeholders and parties connected to the issues raised, to discuss MA63 matters in depth.

“Subsequently, the findings are brought to the Technical Committee under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63), which is the second-highest level and is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof,” she was quoted by TVS as saying, during the MA63 and State-Federal Relations Townhall Session at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) complex, organised by the National Institute of Public Administration (AKM), Prime Minister’s Department, here today.

Hasidah added that decisions from the MTPMA63 Technical Committee are then elevated to the highest-level meeting of the council, co-chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“The discussions on MA63 between the state and federal government are currently guided by the best procedures—diplomatic, structured and not driven by emotion.

“That is why the Sarawak Premier previously sent me to London to study MA63 in greater detail before formulating strategies to reclaim our rights under MA63 that have been eroded over time,” she added. — DayakDaily
